A 134-year-old note was discovered in the rafters of the Allen AME Church in Cape May, New Jersey, during a renovation project. The note, dated June 19, 1891, was written by Reverend Alexander Heritage Newton and appears to be a receipt for plastering work. The discovery provides new insights into the church’s past and the history of the Black community in Cape May, and officials are working to preserve and display the note.
