The 40th anniversary of the Kerr Memorial lifeguard championships are being held on Avalon’s beach Friday evening. The event is named after former lifeguard David Kerr who died of cancer in 1981. Kerr was a 1980 South Jersey lifeguard champion in the doubles row. Avalon has won the event for three consecutive years.
