Governor Murphy made it official Friday, announcing the appointment of George Helmy to the position of United States Senator. Helmy replaces convict Robert Menendez, who found guilty on corruption charges. Murphy says Helmy will serve in the Senate until the New Jersey election results are certified on November 27th. At that point, Helmy will step down and the Senator-elect will be sworn in.
