North Wildwood officials approved a housing development that will demolish the Chateau Bleu motel, a significant example of the Wildwoods’ iconic doo-wop architecture. The Doo-Wop Preservation League is urging the developer to incorporate elements of the historic motel into the new homes, highlighting its cultural importance and the loss of the area’s vintage aesthetic. The motel, a fixture since 1959 and once a vibrant part of the neon-lit Surf Avenue, is seen as a crucial piece of the Wildwoods’ history by preservationists.
