A lawsuit has been filed against the Wildwood Police Department alleging negligence after an eleven-year-old driving a golf cart crashed into a crowd at a 2024 National Night Out event. According to the complaint, the child was wearing goggles to simulate intoxication during a driving exercise when they lost control, left the enclosed course, and struck several bystanders. The injured victims claim the police officer seated inside the cart failed to stop the vehicle from plowing into the display area, resulting in various neck, back, and burn injuries. The lawsuit is seeking compensatory and punitive damages from the city, the police force, the supervising officer, and the event’s organizers.
