Pain Specialists Admits to Fraudulent Billing Practices, Faces Financial Penalties

Pain Specialists, a New Jersey pain management clinic, pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud for billing insurers using a physician’s ID when he wasn’t present, resulting in higher reimbursements. The clinic will pay approximately $59,000 in restitution and $82,000 in criminal fines, and has also agreed to a $240,000 civil settlement for similar improper billing practices. While the clinic admits to billing errors, they maintain that all patients received treatment from licensed professionals, and implemented corrective measures.
