A 52-year-old Atlantic City man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison after admitting he tried to sexually assault a nurse inside the Atlantic County jail. Prosecutors say Melvin Bishop attacked the woman during a medical screening in November of 2024, but she was able to fight him off and hide until guards intervened. Bishop must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, and he will be subject to lifetime supervision and sex offender registration upon his release.
